Hidden things are waiting to be revealed

Happy Thanksgiving

Today, as is tradition in many families, people will gather ‘round the table and each will say something for which they are thankful. Elizabeth thought this year we should say 12 things each. I assume it has to do with something they’ve done recently at school. This year, while I am still thankful for my family, friends, health, etc., I am more specifically thankful for a Spirit of revelation.

In the past few months, and more intensely in the past few weeks, I have been asking God for more wisdom. James 1:5 says that if anyone lacks wisdom, he should ask God who gives it liberally. We desperately need wisdom from the Lord. Coupled with that need is the Spirit of revelation. That’s why Paul prayed that the Lord would “give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better,” (Ephesian 1:17 NIVUK).

The more I have been seeking the Lord and asking for wisdom, the more He has been faithful to give me His Spirit of revelation. Wisdom is discernment about things both human and divine. Revelation is disclosure of the truth and instruction on things previously unknown to you, given through Holy Spirit. Paul prayed that we’d have both because wisdom without revelation is pointless and revelation without wisdom is overwhelming.

Today, I pray that you’d have a happy Thanksgiving and that it would be filled with family, friends, health, and yummy food. More than that, I pray as Paul did: that the Lord would give you His Spirit of wisdom and of revelation, that you may know Him better. As you grow closer to Father God, keeping your eyes fixed on Him in all situations, He will not only reveal truth to you, but He’ll show you what to do. “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you,” (Psalm 32:8 NIVUK).

Happy Thanksgiving!
