Pressing forward to complete the path

Pressing Forward

“Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin, to see the plumb line in Zerubbabel’s hand.” ~ Zechariah 4:10 NLT

I am reading a devotional on writing and publishing. Day one already has great insight: “Zechariah is an invitation for us to surrender our expectations of what our books have to look like and the process that we go through to finish them. It’s also moving on from the ‘good ole days’ and looking forward to what the Lord has ahead,” (http://bible.com/r/6tu). Though it talks about book publication as its goal, the goal is universal: pressing forward to reach what we are – or are supposed to be – striving towards.

“Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus,” (Philippians 3:13-14 NIV). Maybe you’ve never completed a goal. Maybe you’ve had a great start, but got bored and frustrated by the process, and quit without finishing. Let this be the year of reaching your goal.

Regardless of your goal, ask the Lord to help you complete it. If it’s part of His plan for you, He will most certainly help you. And if it’s not, ask Him to remove the desire and move you onto the correct path and goal.

Paul said he presses on towards the goal for which God has called him. He knew his purpose and calling. I know mine. Do you know yours? If not, that’s OK. Now is a great time to ask the Lord to show you His purpose and calling for your life. Then, ask Him to order your steps to complete it, so that you, too, can press forward and achieve the goal.
