Jesus, I Can’t See!

At the end of October, there was a heavier-than-expected snowfall in the area. It would have been fine, except that the heater in our van stopped working and the wet snow began freezing to our windshield. About a mile from school, I could barely see out of my windshield. I cried out, “Jesus, I can’t see! You have to be my eyes!” Within a minute, the windshield cleared, and we made it to school safely.
That was a physical need in which Jesus answered in a tangible way: first in clearing the windshield, and then by sending someone to fix our heater. There have also been times in my life—some more recent—that I couldn’t spiritually or emotionally see the way. In those times, I have also cried out, “Jesus, I can’t see!” And He has been so faithful to guide me. However, unlike clearing my windshield, Jesus doesn’t always clear my whole field of vision. Sometimes He asks me to trust Him and follow where He leads.
I’ve become more aware of how quick I am to trust some things, but slow to trust Jesus, especially when His request is contrary to my feelings. In Ephesians 1:17, Paul prays for a Spirit of wisdom and revelation in order that we may know God better. Knowing God better circles back to trust. A lack of trust produces fear, causing us to either hesitate or refuse. It’s been hesitation that’s caught my attention. I don’t want to be slow to respond to Jesus.
Typically, we don’t truly trust someone we don’t know. The key to immediate obedience is trust, and the key to trust is true and deeper knowledge. Jesus wants us to follow Him—without question—regardless of where or how He leads. We get to that point by trusting Jesus completely. We learn to trust Jesus more by getting to know Him better.
Lord, there are too many times in life that we depend upon our own sight. When the way becomes foggy, we realize how much we need You. Holy Spirit, help us to get to know Jesus better, so we will trust Him more. Jesus, show us the way. In Your Name I pray, Amen.
I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. ~ Ephesians 1:17 NIVUK
